Beyond Oasis in a lot of ways, is like SEGA's answer to the The Legend of Zelda. It sports a similar top-down view point, combat is primarily based on sword and melee attacks (though other weapons are available), and the game drops the player into a vast fantasy-based world with a "mute" character and sets him the task of defeating monsters, solving puzzles and exploring huge dungeons. What sets it apart from other games in the genre is the armlet. By pressing the A button, Ali fires a bolt of energy from his armlet, and depending on what it touches, an elemental spirit is summoned. The spirit's powers and abilities are then free for use in combat, puzzle solving, and even travel. Firing a bolt at a river, for example, would summon the water fairy, Dytto, who would be able to attack foes with water based attacks, and also heal the player. Shooting a bolt at fire would summon a powerful fire genie named Efreet, who possesses highly damaging flame attacks. Other spirits include Shade, a shadow spirit that acts as Ali's "hookshot", and also gives him powers of illusion, and Bow, a plant which can probably best be described as the result of the joining between some broccoli and a chain chomp.
