King Dedede's stolen the Star Rod again, and Kirby is the only one who can retrieve it. You would think that Kirby is tired of this by now, but he perseveres, and for good reason - without the Star Rod, the citizens of Dream Land cannot dream. After collecting all seven pieces of the Star Rod, Kirby must defeat a Nightmare and Dedede to restore his homeland to order. Kirby's Adventure is one of the NES's best platformers and features several important differences from the seminal Kirby's Dream Land on the Game Boy: an overworld map allowing for free movement back and forth between worlds, minigames and minilevels, and the ability to "copy" the ability of the enemies Kirby inhales to allow for use of their powers. For instance, Kirby can turn into a UFO, wield a sword, shoot lasers, or turn into a stone - or a combination of two. This allows for an entirely new dimension of gameplay, and it is this innovative gameplay for which Kirby's Adventure is known and fondly remembered. The music is extremely bright and cheerful and surprisingly high-quality for an NES game, and the graphics are absolutely beautiful for any 8-bit system.

Legacy...

Kirby's Adventure saw its release on the NES in 1993, right before the end of the NES's life. It received an update on the GBA in 2002 as Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. The updated version features multiplayer and a Meta-Knightmare mode, should the game be completed 100%. Kirby's Adventure is easily one of the best platformers on the NES and an absolute Virtual Console necessity.

The first game is the Kirby series is one of the best. This game has a wide variety of different abilities and actually has some challenge at different points in the game. Yes, it's your basic Kirby game, so if you've never liked the series, don't bother with this game. However, for us normal people, this game is great fun and is worth every Wii point you spend on it.

Fun, but short game. It's an average platform game at best. Some slowdowns.

Just to rectify that's this is not the first Kirby game, Kirby's Dreamland on Gameboy actually was. Excellent platformer, one of the best on NES. Recommended for Kirby fans!
