Super Mario World
Reader Rating:

Super Mario World takes plenty of notes from [/i]Super Mario Bros. 3[/i], but grows on and expands them beyond anything the previous title could have ever done. Multiple power ups are strewn throughout the levels including the classic Fire Flower giving Mario the ability to throw fireballs, as well as the feather, giving him a cape and enabling him to fly (though different in execution to Mario 3's leaf powerup). With the Super Nintendo's 16-Bit core, Mario can now be seen racing through Dinosaur Land on top of dinosaurs named Yoshi who populate the territory, along with flying, swimming, and growing like never before. A side-scroller that sets the bar for every other game that followed it, not only is Super Mario World one of the best (if not the best) Super Mario title created, it can be argued that it is the greatest platformer, and possibly the greatest video game ever created. A steal at 800 Points... even if you've mastered it on other systems.
Legacy...
Super Mario World has had quite a few iterations over the years, including a pack in with a special version of Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was also released on the GameBoy Advance under the Super Mario Advance banner as Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 (SMA2 went on to become the best selling title on the system). Super Mario World was also almost recreated on the Phillips CD-i in the form of Super Mario's Wacky Worlds. The title would have been Super Mario World, but set in real world locations as opposed to the Dinosaur Land. Luckily (or unluckily depending on your viewpoint) for gamers, the title was cancelled after the CD-i failed to create any sort of momentum in the gaming verse. As of February 5th, North Americans can race through the Mushroom Kingdom on Nintendo's Virtual Console.Reader Reviews
Fun, enjoyable platformer.

- Tales
One of the best platformers of all time. If you don't have this game in any other incarnation, pick this one up.
Make sure you use the Classic controller, as the gamecube controller layout is not very friendly to this game.
