Bonk's Adventure
Hudson's flagship platforming mascot in his first adventure is a solid game for fans of the genre. The game's take on then-conventional aspects of the popular run-and-jump tier of games is clever and oftentimes down-right bizarre as you'll find Bonk headbutting all kinds of enemies into submission. The level design is sometimes bland and primative as you'll mostly find Bonk running along a flat plane, but you'll find a handfull of stages that offer challenges such as swinging from vines and swimming. Each stage is broken up into rounds with a boss fight at the end, which was, and still is a textbook presentation in the adventure genre.
With clean graphics and inventive gameplay, Bonk is certainly a title to discover if you haven't already. Platforming fans will find a lot of fun and challenge in the game's many levels and enemies, and there's plenty to discover in its colorful presentation and charming battle system.
Legacy...
This is it - the original version of
Bonk's Adventure, and every other port and remake is just trying to be as faithful to this version as it can be. This game was ported to a number of different systems such as the NES, Amiga, the Game Boy, and it was even remade in 3D for the GameCube and Playstation 2. But if you want to check out where it all began, this VC version is your best bet. Everything else is just a copycat.
