Ice Hockey

Though lacking in modes, Ice Hockey more then makes up in it with pure multiplayer entertainment. Players start each game by selecting a team from six different nationalities (United States, Sweden, Poland, Canada, Soviet Union, and Czechoslovakia), and then choosing the players for each team. Gamers choose 4 players a side, and you have the choice between large, medium, or skinny players. Skinny players are fast, but lack the size for hitting, wherein fat players are slower, but with harder shots and knock opponents more easily off the puck. Medium players fall somewhere in the middle in all categories.

Once you're on the ice, you control your players, by shooting, passing, and hitting your opponents as hard as you can. The only real frustrating part is having to control your goalie at all times, this works by moving the character you currently have control, and the goalie will simply mimic these movements. This causes some problems in the defensive zone, but works well once you get used to it. The game is a solid title for gamers who remember hitting the ice back in the day, but other then for nostalgia purposes, players looking for a true Hockey title should wait for Blades of Steel to hit Nintendo's virtual gaming service.

Besides making a cameo appearance in WarioWare: Twisted! as one of 9-Volt and 18-Volt's mini-games, gamers haven't been able to play Ice Hockey on any console except the NES since its release in 1988.
