May 23rd, 2006Day 2: Celebrity Calls Me Sexy
(A LOT OF LINKED PICS THAT ARE 600KB+, 56K warning again!)
I woke up early to make sure I wasn't late this time. We were all there pretty early this time.
Xbox 360 Bus!
Play Beyond sign you've all seen a billion times
There was a huge line to get in, but I got to explore the concourse.
A Ghost Recon booth, never played the game
Ghost Recon car, nice!
Ghost Recon Babes :D
I entered the West Hall first. I stopped at the Nintendo Booth, and the only thing that was free was Children of Mana.
IMPRESSIONS: Children of Mana (Nintendo DS)
I got to play for a long while. It's a fun game from a fun series. It's an action game, you basically going around slashing things. There's a charm about it though that I really liked. Finding treasures and solving puzzles yadda yadda yadda. I think the highlight was the firebird boss, I forget the name. At first I did pretty lousy, but eventually I figured out that I just needed a sword upgrade. After I got that, it took another bit of time to figure out how to really hurt the boss. (You hit it's legs) After that, I eventually won. Woohoo!
After that I entered the BRAIN AGE TOURNAMENT
Not-Really-IMPRESSIONS: Brain Age (Nintendo DS)
I did the math multiplayer game that I played with my friends on the earlier Tuesday. I dominated, so I was thinking I'd get first place. I screwed up though, and wrote many numbers that the DS took as something else. It was enough to make me barely lose to someone else; I got 2nd out of 4 or 5. I got a free notebook; I already got one on Wednesday though. Can never have too many either. I used it to write down the games I played on Friday.
Later I think some guy asked me to play some DVD player that also played GBA games. I played Mario Kart Super Circuit and did lousy, but it was an interesting device.
Dockable Entertainment
Dockable Entertainment 2
It was time to head over to the Sony booth once more, and first off to play was one of my favorite games from last year, I think it was second to Zelda, OKAMI.
IMPRESSIONS: Okami (Playstation 2)
Now I love me some cel-shaded Chinese art action. It took me a while to figure out how to blow out the fire. (You had to draw a perfect trace of the line they gave you; I was too off for the first 2 minutes)Later on I got to try the boss. I love bosses, and this one was challenging. It was so challenging that I died without winning. He seemed pretty invincible and he had a ton of armor and I didn't know how to attack him. Pretty sure you probably had to draw stuff on him, but I never figured it out.
Now it was time to show off my singing talent to two or three people, it was time to play Singstar!
IMPRESSIONS: Singstar (Playstation ... something, I don't know)
The song I chose was "Speed of Sound" by Coldplay. Yes, I like Coldplay, Shut up. This would not be the first or last time I got to play along with songs I really enjoyed. I sang along really well and got a high score of 8700. They also had "Somebody Told Me" by the Killers and "Do You Want To" by Franz Ferdinand, but I didn't sing those. The fact that you can download new songs on the Playstation 3 really interests me. I'd get this one in a heartbeat if I had $600 for a PS3, which I don't.
Tecmo? Booth Babe, Yummy
I headed over to the Atlus booth and while I didn't play anything. I took some cool pics, and entered some raffle which I lost. (Or if I won, I'm not aware of it) Kasuma Kaneko was going to give autographs in a few hours. There were no lines, so I went to play more games.
Disgaea Figurines!
More
And more
They had a ton
Atlus Booth, I wanted to play Rule of Rose but never did, lolilicious!
The next thing I did was go to the Gamespot booth to try and get a basket this time. Yesterday I did but failed. This time I got one of two, and entered a drawing for $1000 in Best Buy(?) money. I also played in a tourney for a T-Shirt.
IMPRESSIONS: NBA Live 2K6 (Xbox 360)
I had to play a real opponent, some Hispanic guy, and the winner got a T-Shirt (Both of us if there was a tie). I started off lousy, and I was unable to get scores. The announcer even pointed out my lack of talent :(. This made me motivated to make a comeback! I tied the score with 15 seconds or so left, 2-2 or 3-3 or something, but my opponent was able to make a last minute score and I was screwed out of a T-Shirt.
It was time for the Midway and Atari booths... Midway first.
IMPRESSIONS: NBA Ballers (Xbox 360)
If I can't beat a regular person maybe I can beat a computer. Nope, I got shutout in the first round, and made a good effort to win but ultimately came short.
IMPRESSIONS: Spy Hunter 3 (Playstation 3)
I shot some guys, got shot. Yawn
IMPRESSIONS: Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (Xbox 360)
I actually played the game on Wednesday but completely forgot to write about it, and I also played it today. (Pretend this is May 11) The first day I tried playing alone but some jerk came in and challenged me. I was certainly going to lose. I did, Subzero vs. some other guy, I lost 2-1. We played another round, and this time I played as Scorpion. After mastering some moves, I beat him 2-1, woohoo!
So most people are probably thinking "Mortal Kombat is one of the worst series ever" but they have probably played little of the new games. Deadly Alliance was awesome. Everything bad about MK3 and MK4 were wiped away. I really liked Armageddon. Although mostly the Arcade version.
On Thursday I got to try out the Adventure/Conquest/whatever it's called mode. I liked Shaolin Monks, but this was meh. I just wanted to fight. So I switched to Arcade mode and beat the hell out of some CPU. Great game.
Next up was the Atari booth. They had a lot of old school games, and DBZ. Most of the games were played with Arcade controllers, so I didn't know what consoles I was playing. I did know that the following was Xbox 360 though.
IMPRESSIONS: Test Drive Unlimited (Xbox 360)
This was AWESOME. Nothing like good ol' realistic driving around a town, and I'm not being sarcastic. I had a blast just speeding around some Southern State at 150MPH and crashing into other cars and trees. I got to play in one of those Arcade-Like Car booths too. The graphics were very good. I actually do want this game a lot. I took a pic but it's lousy and I didn't upload it. You can race other people, or just try to reach a destination in a limited time. Eventually, after like 10 minutes, I was forced to get off to make way for some media crew from a foreign TV show.
I then played some DBZ game, I don't know the name or the system (It wasn't for Wii) so I'm sorry no impressions!
It was getting time to head to the Atlus booth to get Kaneko's autograph. There was a small line (It was 45 minutes early), so I got in and just sat down looking at Atlus stuff.
At 1PM, he arrived!
Kasuma Kaneko, did artwork for Disgaea
His Autograph for a New Game
I knew about two other famous people that were showing up. Paris Hilton was at the nearby Gameloft Booth and Adam West was in the far-away 2KGames booth. I decided to try and get into both. The line for Paris seemed huge, so I went to see how Adam West's line was. It was BIGGER. So I gave up on West and tried to hang around to at least get his picture. I had some time however, so it was time to play more games and take other screens.
When I got in the South Hall, there were skateboarders. Tony Hawk may have been there but I dunno if THIS is him.
In another booth, think it was Activision, I took pictures of their stuff.
Neat Car
Optimus Prime baby
Nice Motorcycle
Down in Namco and Capcom's booths...
Katamari and... I'm not going to get sued by that girl am I? I thought that was an exhibitor!

This actually wasn't a good idea
You'll find out later on why
..........
The Power of Korea booth had a... Korean *gasp* band playing. The Power of Korea if that's what it's called booth basically has 20 or so games from a variety of indie Korean developers. I didn't play any of their games though.
I don't remember their name
Well enough time passed for me to go to the 2K Games booth to see Adam West. He showed up 15 minutes later. He then pointed to a picture of Adam West from Family Guy and showed it to everybody, pointing at it and mouthing "THAT'S ME!". He wasn't there as Batman, but as the Adam West from Family Guy to promote the FG Video Game, which if it was playable, I didn't play. He actually seemed like the cartoon character!
Adam West
I was dead set on getting at least a picture of Paris Hilton, so I went back to the South Hall. First I took a picture of Chalk Art in front of the West Hall (Huge). It was then that MY CAMERA DIED. Crap. I wouldn't be able to take Paris's pic! Never fear, I took the batteries out and shook them around, which seemed futile but it actually worked for a while, and I got to take more stuff.
The crowd near the booth was INSANE. I tried to get in the scene but I couldn't see squat. I couldn't find the line, but I assumed it was huge. Eventually ushers and the LAPD cleared a lot of space, and I too was victim as I was kicked out. I don't give up that easily, and I walked in another entrance and got back in the crowd. But being 5'6 I was unable to see anything. It was actually because she still wasn't there. Despite that West was late, and they were supposed to come out at the same time. When she did come (No Perverted Thoughts when I said that), I heard her speak, she made a mistake saying she was promoting Diamond Quest(?) and not her actual game Paris Hilton Jewel Jam or something, which I didn't play but I assume is a lot like Bejeweled. Wouldn't you know it though, through all the moving around, I actually ACCIDENTALLY I SWEAR, ended up IN LINE and the line was actually short because of all the confusion. Thirty minutes and I was with Paris. I wasn't allowed to have a camera, so there's no picture evidence of me actually hugging her, due to the fact that at the entire show I did not touch a single booth babe. She called me "sexy", it's true. GameLoft, if you have a picture of me with her, Give it to me. This goes for anyone else. I got her autograph, and I took the camera out and got a pic of her with someone else.
Man that paragraph was so embarrassing but I really only meant to get a pic of her and that was the only way apparently @_@.
So I decided if I could get Paris Hilton, maybe I could find myself in line for West! Nope, when I got there, the line was closed. Damnit.
Well it was time to play more games. First I went to the N-Gage booth and filled the "I haven't touched booth babe boobies yet" thing and took a pic with some N-Gage girls. I tried my best to smile, but ... I turned out awful. I'm almost ashamed to show the pic. Let's just say I was sad that my camera died. interestingly enough they played She Wants Revenge, (Don't remember which song) a band I saw live just 3 weeks earlier! That was the only thing I did in the N-Gage booth.
It was time to play actual games. So I did. Here are some more impressions.
IMPRESSIONS: Super Monkey Ball Adventure (Playstation Portable and Nintendo GameCube)
I played both the PSP and GC versions. I swear that was the only GameCube game there or at least the only one I played. I didn't really get the adventure parts. But it has potential. I was more interested in the actual classic game play, which is essentially the same. You'll all like it. The Wii one was more interesting though.
IMPRESSIONS: Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (Playstation Portable)
So Tekken is on the PSP. How is it? As you can see from the earlier MK impressions, I like fighting games. I played as the new female character Lili, and maybe some other people, and had a generally fun time. I think I'll find myself with a PSP sooner on.
I also played .hack/GU but not enough to give you impressions. Even a short undetailed sentence that probably doesn't help you at all
Back to the SEGA booth...
I wanted to get a SEGA cap, and I had to play Full Auto 2 to get it.
IMPRESSIONS: Full Auto 2: Battle Lines (Playstation 3)
This is a game where you duke out other people in cars with missiles. I started off by bombing an opponent. I wasn't able to survive myself in the early seconds. But I was dominating, sort of. I kept beating the crap out of other cars, but towards the end I slipped up and died a few times. You could also kill opponents by ramming into them (Everyone immediately respawns of course) I got second place! And I got my cap.
Nearby, they were demonstrating a game called Total War. I was able to pick up a T-Shirt for the game. It was the only T-Shirt I got the entire show :/ Compare that to around 2-3 last years.
I then played VIRTUA FIGHTER 5. Not enough to post impressions, but I did play against someone for two rounds. Took 15 seconds... for me to lose.
IMPRESSIONS: Phantasy Star Universe (PC)
The only PC game I played, though it's also for PS2 and Xbox 360. I played this last year, and it was almost the same. The fighting system was like I remember. It's still in real time but is a lot quicker than Phantasy Star Online, even if the idea is the same. You attack in three-combo style and can also do more powerful attacks with less accuracy. You still run around areas just slashing bad guys endlessly until you get to a rather fun boss, which you just hack and slash. This game has a cutscene based story and it's done a lot better than the (lack of) cut scenes in PSO. It'll surely be a great title.
I never got to play Yakuza but it seemed pretty good. I then looked at Ubisoft play Splinter Cell for a while, I wrote about it on the Day 1 blog. I decided it was time for one more look at the Microsoft booth. I didn't get to play any of the games, save for some EyeToy like game which I didn't like. I did look in the PC area, and saw the WINDOWS VISTA.
IMPRESSIONS: Windows Vista (PC)
I didn't use it, but I saw some guy talk about it. Here's what I wrote down.
*Parental timers, the computer will shut down and not work at specific times that you assign.
*It's very pretty, I can attest that. I really liked what I saw.
*Exploring folders is a lot flashier, I don't know if that translates to convenient, but it is.
*Easier start menu; it doesn't take up the whole screen anymore. It's way easier to navigate through all the menus to where you want to go.
*To the right of the screen is a transparent bar which shows a clock and your CPU usage. I guess you can control what's there or if it's even there at all.
*Includes IE7, now with tabs!
*Incredibly fast shutdown and startup time. It wasn't demonstrated though.
*January 2007
*Minimum requirements not released yet
One of the biggest but not surprising announcements was that Halo 2 will be Windows Vista exclusive. I guess they need to sell the Vista somehow. I am a Windows whore and I will replace my dying computer with the Vista when 2007 arrives.
I took some pictures of the Pirates of the Caribbean booth. This was the last picture I took before the camera finally died permanently for the day. I couldn't take anymore pics till the next day. There were a ton of more cool things in that booth to that you'll have to look elsewhere for.
Last, I went back to the Sony booth in the West Hall. I wanted to play Heavenly Sword, and luckily I was able to squeeze (Not perverted!) some playing time in before closing. I played at 5:55 (E3 closed at 6:00), and this is what I got.
IMPRESSIONS: Heavenly Sword (Playstation 3)
This is also another hack and slash game. But you play as a pretty lady! In this demo, you just found a bunch of evil warriors, Prince of Persia style. There didn't seem to be health because I got whacked a lot and I never died. There were a variety of attacks and weapons you can use. You can use your sword or use a double-edged sword and I think there was some other stuff. There were cool animations for finishing off the enemies. At the end you fight the leader of the warriors and you do some interactive cut scenes in order to finish him off. I was probably 30 seconds away from completing the demo when.... 6:00! The power was shut off and I never got to finish =(
Well that was it for Day 2 of E3! Afterwards I went to the Hospitality room where I relaxed my worn out feet. I saw DBG again, but I regretfully didn't say a lot. Actually I was more waiting for N-Philes to show up, but they never did. I kept asking myself if there was another media room... Doh! There's the Media Center, which is where they were. We all go back to the hotel. We spent a lot of time playing Mario Kart DS. I wasn't as good as I was on Day 1...
I go to sleep at around 1am, despite being really tired. (Picture taken by NightsB)
Next: Day 3 - Coming To A Close
I woke up early to make sure I wasn't late this time. We were all there pretty early this time.
