Samus Aran's second adventure was a Game Boy outing, sending the fearless bounty hunter to SR-388, the homeworld of the deadly Metroid species. Her mission: to eradicate the Metroid threat and maintain the safety of the Galactic Federation.

Metroid II introduced many new facets to the series, including more dynamic controls, new items, as well as a different, more objective-based play style. Rather than randomly exploring the dark caves of Zebes as in the first game, Samus had to actually search for and destroy every Metroid. Once every Metroid in an area had been dealt with, the acid / lava lowered, revealing an entirely new area to explore.
