Rumor: Secret of Mana series to hit the GameCube
http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=7511
" Brownie Brown, the Nintendo-funded Tokyo-based development studio, has revealed today that it’s working on a brand new title. The company was founded by the makers of the Seiken Densetsu (Sword Of Mana) series, and with much of its staff consisting of former Square employees, its work has an appealingly distinct style, as seen in its GBA games Sword Of Mana and Magical Vacation.
No further details have been announced, although it’s strongly suspected that the new game will be heading for release on Gamecube. All we have to go by is the very preliminary design sketch that has clearly come straight from the “It’s Mr Pants” school of inadequate artistry. Three characters, two trees and one house are the only things ‘pictured’, although that would fit with the contents of Secret Of Mana's opening chapter.
A lot of RPG fans would give their right statistically-enhanced, armour-plated arm to get involved with a Seiken Densetsu game on the Gamecube. Perhaps this will be it. We’ll keep you in the loop."
--------------------------------------------------------------
Click the link above to view this apparent sketch (which coincidentally looks like a 4 year old's drawing).
Before anyone goes bonkers, let it be known that nobody else has reported this news, while at the same time, Spong.com doesn't have the most trusted reputation.
I'm not holding my breath, but it's something to talk about.

it will more than likely be for the GBA or the DS. I'd love if it was a Cube/Revolution game, but I doubt it.

That's not a preliminary sketch, that's a doodle some guy made while making logs in the bathroom!
I wouldn't be surprised if Spong itself just crammed out that drawing and made a news piece on it.

oh man, come on! You would think there would be something more "professional" out on the internet hinting at a new Sword of Mana gamecube game than THAT drawing. Oh well, guess we will have to wait and see what comes up if ANYTHING does.

This is fake. No videogame development company would release a picture like that. Spong sucks.

Haha, this is so ridiculous. Who would release an "official artwork" like that?

I don't believe it.
HOWEVER: If the new console Mana game *IS* by Brownie Brown, it will be for the GameCube. I don't know if anyone remembers, but Nintendo acquired Brownie Brown a few years back, and lent them to Square-Enix to make the GBA title Sword of Mana (their second GBA title after the Japanese-only Magical Vacation).

The doodle is actually on Brownie Brown's website...
http://www.br2.co.jp/img/0408_red.jpg
I think I've mentioned my love for SoM plenty of times, so I don't think it really needs repeating. I, of course, would like to see another Seiken Densetsu game, and having a full colorful 3D version would be awesome. If it somehow managed to have FF:CC's level of graphics and art style, with the classic expansive world in the SD series...that would be sweet. A solid arpg combat system is a must as well.
Then again, whatever Brownie Brown has in development doesn't necessarily have to be part of the Seiken Densetsu series...In any case, someone needs to translate the text the goes along with the picture. Maybe it's some kind of company joke that we don't know about...
