"Part of the problem here is not just George Bush and the White House," Obama told a crowd of hundreds gathered at a park in Cedar Falls. "We can't just change political parties and continue to do the same kind of things we've been doing. We can't just go about business as usual and think it's going to turn out differently."

Obama, a senator from Illinois, said average Americans must be brought back to the table when dealing with every issue, from health care to education to trade.

"We've got to make sure workers are represented, not just CEOs. We've got to make sure patients are represented and the nurses are represented, not just drug companies," he said.

To make the government more accountable, Obama said he would post all non-emergency bills online for five days before he signed them into law, allowing Americans a chance to weigh in on the legislation. In addition, he said he would post all meetings between lobbyists and government agencies online.

Obama said he would require Cabinet officials to speak to Americans via national broadband town-hall style meetings to discuss issues at their agencies. He also pledged to issue an executive order that information about the government's operations must be released to those seeking it unless it could harm a protected interest.

Obama cited his record of backing ethics and lobbying reforms, including co-authoring a bill that requires all government spending to be posted online — allowing anyone to do a simple Internet search and find that information. He said that during his time as a state lawmaker he helped to create hospital report cards so that patients could understand the quality of care offered at each hospital.

He may have my vote when the elections come around.

Paul Weller Lakitu Join Date: Sep 2002 Posts: 11,516	i want obama to explain to me how he's going to do those things. i don't care if he wants to do them. how? presidents have to use their power in strategic ways in order to accomplish tasks. they have to bid with the public view, congress, and all in all being a leader for what american society, in general wants. i don't doubt his good intentions. i like what he's saying but i need to hear more. he may be the best we've got. its pointless to vote for him in new york, unless of course, new york city's finest mayor gets the bid.

But Obama remains a whole lot of hot air and rainbows. The only remotely policy things he's listed are cute and petty like this online listing thing. It's not real policy. The fact that he isn't revealing that speaks to how unappealing socialism and appeasement are to Americans, or perhaps to the possibility that he doesn't really have a policy. Which is a chilling possibility at this point. He'd end up being either incompetent or a puppet. What do you folks accuse Bush of again?

There's some of the specifics about what he wants to do, I've been following the election fairly closely this time around. I don't want to make a mistake and vote for some idiot like I did last time.

So far, Obama has my vote, he's the only candidate that I truly believe wants to and will change our government, country and world for the better. maybe he's all smoke and mirrors and if he is, he's done a damn good job of misdirecting and influencinng me.

He's got my vote so far.

I'd rather have him than hillary. but I don't think he'll change america other than the fact he'll make history based on his race. it'll be a lot better than bush dont get me wrong, but i don't have a lot of faith in obama.
