Resources being used up to 90% randomly, what the hell?
In the past week or so I've been getting this popup message in XP that tells me that I'm using up a lot of resources. It tells me that I need to close some applications. It's odd because the most I ever have open is Firefox, iTunes, Messenger and maybe Azureus.
So I go into the task manager and look at what's up. I can't admit to knowing what the hell is going on in there though. The CPU usage only goes through the roof every 30 minutes or so, probably in even longer intervals than that. And when it does it never lasts for more than a few minutes. In fact sometimes it's only 10 seconds or so. And there isn't any noticeable slowdown when it happens.
AVG runs every morning so I don't think it could be a virus. I've also tried this program called avast! and it didn't find anything either.
Is it normal to have like 6 svchost programs running at once? I've been told that MS Automatic Updates is what's been hogging my resources. I've tried turning off Automatic Updates but it hasn't changed anything. I've still got a ton of svchost programs running and I keep getting the alert.
Here's some pics that may or may not help.
Extended Resource Monitor

Task Manager: Processes (Sorted by Memory Usage) [FIXED]
Task Manager: Processes (Sorted by CPU) [FIXED]

While I have no answers, my computer's been doin' the same stupid thing. The svchost is supposed to be running, from the little research I did a while back, but . . .
Truthfully, I say go get help from the spybotsearch and destroy forums. They're pretty helpful and stuff.

upload your last two screenshots, dammit
also it's quite normal for multiple instances of svchost to be running.

You could always use some of your hard drive memory to help with the CPU usage.

I fixed two of the links in original post.
Upon further inspection it appears as though vsmon.exe might be the culprit. As I'm typing this vsmon.exe is at 02 in the CPU column of my processes. In the screenshot I posted it's at 40+. vsmon is apparently Zone Alarm. I'm looking into it to see if this is a known issue.
Oh yeah, and I'm on Windows XP Media Center Edition, in case you guys didn't figure that out from my screenshots.

Yeah, it looks like I have half a dozen versions of svchost.exe running so that's probably not it.
I have a separate question. Is it good that I have a bunch of shit clogging up my Add/Remove programs that can't be changed or removed? How do I get rid of them?
Some examples:
AiO_Scan_CDA
AiOSoftwareNPI
BufferChm
CP_Package_Variety1
CP_Package_Variety2
CP_Package_Variety3
CustomResearchQFolder
Destinations
DeviceManagementQFolder
DocProc
eSupportQFolder
F300
F300_Help
F300Trb
Fax_CDA
MarketResearch
mCore
mDrWiFi
mIWA
mLogView
mMHouse
And that's just a few. Actually now I'm noticing that I can't delete a lot of programs that I know aren't evil, like HP and Roxio programs and stuff. What's the deal?

I say disable Zone Alarm for a while. the vsmon.exe thingy appears to be a known issue.
