Florida is on Fire

Florida is already under a fire-induced state of emergency, with high wind and tinder-dry conditions spawning some 240 blazes over 50,000 acres. So far no injuries have been reported, and only a handful of houses have been destroyed or damaged.
A 30,000-acre fire in southern Georgia has crossed the Florida border.
Driving in that fire is difficult and cars on a north Florida highway need their headlights to cut through the dense white smoke.
In Taylor County, 96-year-old Clyde Johns evacuated at about noon today. He says he hopes the house he built himself is saved.

idk if anyone's heard about this, but we walked outside this morning thinking that there was just a hell of a lot of fog, within minutes we realized that it was actually smoke. Last week the air here was affected by the Georgia fires, but it wasn't that bad. Today made L.A. look like the inside of an oxygen tank. Ash is falling from the sky like a light misty rain and it's so hard to breathe that unless you have one of those air filter masks on, you have to pull your shirt collar up over your face. idk if you can tell from this pic that I took earlier in the car on our way home from picking up the kids, but the air here is so heavy and dirty right now that it's just disgusting. Like remember that one volcano movie with Tommy Lee Jones where at the end everyone is covered in ash an stuff? The cars out in my parking lot are covered in so much grey dust that it looks like a ghost town.
As much as I hate Florida, its skies are normally a bright cornflower type blue during the time this pic was taken, not this sick dirty dishwater color.

Well, unfortunately we screwed up the ecosystem for like 60-70 years by putting down every fire that erupted. Now there's underbrush everywhere, and wildfires spread like, well, wildfire.

Yeah, I walked outside however long ago and it looked really . . . gross. Not a good gross, if there ever is one.
And then I heard that is was wildfire induced and I was sad.

I woke up unable to breathe, like I had smoked 3 packs of cigarettes in one night or something. My kids have been coughing all night sounding like little old men.
Tell me, why does Florida blow so much? Seriously.

Because old people go there to die. This is nature's way of fast-forwarding the process. One of many ways, actually. Others include hurricanes, heat waves, and Disney World.

I walked outside last night and was freaked out that it smelled as if the fire was so close. I usually like the smell if it is a light smell and if it is cold outside.

I haven't been here long enough to tell you exactly, but I do know that orlando has the dumbest drivers on the planet. Old people + The Stupidest College Kids Of All Time = the worst mix to drive with on the road.
We haven't even touched the working dads, soccer moms and other stereo types that are rampant around these parts.
At least the weather is consistent and nice so far.

There are really hardly any elderly drivers on the road here. Just a bunch of college kids who don't know ANY rules of the road nor do they have any common sense. We have a ton of yuppies here though, but they don't usually piss me off in their SUV's with their "My child's an honor student at ____" bumper stickers unless it's in a parking lot. Not a damn one of them know how to pull their oversized car in or out of the parking space without taking a good 10minutes to do so because they can't judge how far back they are or how much they need to turn their wheel.

This was taken around 8am and while it looks like maybe a storm or something is just moving in, it's the smoke from all the wild fires going on. This morning was so much worse than it's been. The air was so thick and gross and everything smelled like it was charred. Schools aren't allowing recess for the kids and every drug store is sold out of the air filter masks. Every hospital in Gville has seen a huge spike in asthma attacks, bronchitis and other respiratory problems. When are these fires gonna end already??!?

Not until the middle of next week from what I heard this morning. There's a storm front coming through that they hope will put most of it out then. I heard they were evacuating people near Orlando.
