Wii backwards compatibility impressions
courtesy of kotaku
It's surprising just how nice GameCube games look on the Wii.
I'm not sure what's going on here. It could be that there's just not a huge difference between Wii and GameCube games so step down isn't as noticable or it could be that the console is polishing up the graphics. Whatever it is I like it. Starfox seemed to have a fresh coat of paint on it when I played it on the Wii.
The best part, I was able to open the flap on top of the console and plug in the Wavebird adapter and use the wireless controller with no problems at all. It does sort of destroy the sleek look of the console, but who cares and I can always take it out if I'm not playing a bunch of GameCube games.
Starting a GameCube game on the Wii is as simple as sliding the tiny disc into that over-sized Wii slot. Then you go to the Disc channel and select start. Easy peasy.
Things are not all wonderful in the world of GameCube on Wii. For some reason, once you get into a GameCube game you have to power down the system to get the remote to start working again. At least thats been my experience. Not a big deal, though slightly annoying. It would have been nice to jump to the Wii menu from your couch and slip back into Wii stuff.

YES. (Mostly) complete backwards compatibility for the win. It's going to be even more of a difference for me, because I currently have my Gamecube connected to my HDTV via s-video cables. When I hook my component cables up to my Wii, it's going to look WORLDS better. Killer7, here I come baby.

I suppose it's possible that Nintendo could release a firmware update to fix this.

Wait are the GameCube slots on the bottom of the console then? So the system can't be in the stand when playing GameCube games I presume?
I sense a huge drought for the Wii after this holiday so the GameCube games should tide me over (I still need to pick up close to thirty games... anyone selling some common games like Luigi's Mansion, RE Zero, Geist, Alien Hominid, etc.? If so HIT ME UP!)

Are there any cube games that don't work?(or have some sort of issue, possibly GBA-GC link games?)

Nope, they're on the top. I can see myself taking my wavebird recievers out when not in use since they'd look pretty dumb sticking out the top of the Wii.
That restart to switch back to the Wii remote is kinda weird, reminds me of the restart-craving DS. But it's not really a big deal since you're going to have to get up to put a Wii game in there anyway.

This article just makes me wanna purchase more GC controllers (a couple of Wavebirds and Nyko pads) instead of those Classic controllers.

I will be buying a few Wavebirds soon....but I can't wait to try out games on the Wii.
Maybe have a Zelda-thon.
