Star Fox 2 = Crap?
(Achtung, baby: I'm basing all of this on a video I saw on G4TechTV last night (on the show Cinematech), and I'm pretty sure this is the E3 2004 trailer. If anyone saw that too last night, can you confirm or deny this please? Thanks.)
OK, I tried to have an open mind about Starfox 2, but last night I saw what I can only assume is the 2004 E3 video, and I was HEAVILY disappointed. Instead of just bashing on the game (and pissing people off), I'm going to do an in-depth preview of what I think sucks. So here we go:
GRAPHICS:
I really don't know where to begin, so I'll just say this. When I got my first glimpse of Fox in the video, I thought he looked like a $7.99 stuffed toy. This new "100% attitude" design is just RETARDED. It makes Fox, look stupid, plain and simple. The other character models are decent, however they may be the only decent-looking things in this entire game, once you consider the ugly vehicles and the bland, uninspired enviroments. Also, in the on-foot mode, the animations are horribly busted! I'll use Krystal as an example (because it was most apparent with her). OK, picture a semi-OK model of Krystal holding a bazooka. Now, make the body move fast, but make her legs move faster. Then give her the ability to tilt her torso while holding the bazooka in all directions WHILE maintaining her top speed. It just looks BUSTED. I can't really say anymore about the graphics, but I was SERIOUSLY expecting more.
AUDIO: OK, I don't have much to say here so I'll make it quick. The SFX are decent, if not generic. The music in the video was a techno remix of the SSB:M Venom arrangement, except preformed on 5 cheapass Casio keyboards. And since when did Fox sound exactly like Sonic in SA2:Battle? The voice acting is pure crap, and it is making me look forward to skipping the cutscenes, which I did not originally intend to do. Plus Fox says the most retarded things I have ever heard, such as "Who am I? I'm Fox, Fox McCloud, and DON'T FORGET IT!". It is extremely ear grating. I hope the Namco sound designer gets hit by a car.
GAMEPLAY: Here's what might be the most dissapointing thing of all. You have 2 modes: in a vehicle (Arwing or Landmaster) or on foot. Neither look really exciting. The Arwing mode looks OK, I mean it looks to be solid, but it doesn't seem to excite much. I'm sensing a lot of unwanted repetivity. I think this has to do with the bland levels. There is no stand-out level that makes me want to go play this game. I haven't seen enough of the LandMaster to pass decent judgment, but I have very low expectations for it. As for the on-foot mode, don't EVEN get me started. I don't see how this will be fun; the aiming's busted, the speed is too slow, the weapons are boring/unbalanced and the levels are uninspired/repetitive. This is a crying shame, folks. This doesn't pass for gameplay, this is just pure crap.
OVERALL: First the sub-par GC Ridge Racer, and now this. I don't think that Namco is ready for the current generation of consoles. (Yes, I know about SC2. That must have been a fluke.) Before you think I'm bashing on this game, please know that THIS WAS THE GAME I WAS MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO. It really is dissapointing to me, and a lot of Star Fox fans to see how Namco can ruin one of our favorite franchises. I could say more bad things about Namco, but instead I'll leave with this genuis quote by our very own Sonicblue:

Namco: "Oh pretty good, you know same old same old. Just playing a little Halo."
Capcom: "Cool, cool. How are the wife and kids?"
Namco: "They're doing great, I get to see them a lot nowadays since we're totally sitting on our hands over here during the Star Fox development."
Capcom: "Hell yeah I hear ya, that must be sweet. Last time I did that was back in 02 when we were doing Devil May Cry 2."
Namco: "Yeah, it's really a sweet gig. So what's up? Why the phone call out of the blue?"
Capcom: "Oh yeah, I just wanted to give you a little message from our director. Turns out he was lying afterall and we won't have this game ready until early January. Can you believe that ****?"
Namco: "Oh snap, that's really gotta suck."
Capcom: "Yeah yeah.. it does. Well, I mean not so much for us, moreso for you guys."
Namco: "Us? Why?"
Capcom: "Well you know, now there's this big gap in the GameCube's holiday lineup. So we were kind of hoping you guys over there at the Star Fox development team could pick up the slack for us. That okay with you?"
Namco: "What what what?! We've been screwing around with this game for the past two years dude. We've literally got like nothing done. We were relying on you guys to be the big third party publisher for the Cube this year. DUDE. You can't do this to us."
Capcom: "Hey, I'm sorry man, these things happen. But don't fret yo, you've got like what? Two or three months till you have to get the game out there? You'll be fine, just work overtime and I'm sure everything will be okay.
Namco: "DUDE. I don't think you ****ing understand what's going on over here. We've just been spending all of Nintendo's money on strippers and keg parties. All we have is like two space levels, a backwards ass multiplayer and voice acting from the janitors. It's totally ****ed up over here."
Capcom: "I hear ya, well, good luck with that. I'll be sure to drop a good word in for you when I talk to Shiggy, see ya at TGS!"
Namco: "DUDE!!!"

Ok your basing this on the E3 2003 video I think not E3 2K4. This game has potential. Plus, Cinematech doesn't exactly show off the best stuff in the games.

It needs work but hopefully they won't put it out before it's ready. It still could be a killer game.

Yeah I agree
This game looks like $hit!!!. I am now just waiting for Nintendo's word on Starfox Adventures 2. When is it coming out so we can have another good Starfox game. So far Starfox 2 looks so dumb and would need a major graphics overhaul and animations need some heavy work. But if I know Nintendo they will screw this one up and just fix it in the next game in the series.

Did you ever even play Star Fox 64? Did you play multi-player with the on-foot guys? Aiming is not "busted", it's done just like SF64, which I think is a good thing.
I also wish people would come up with better descriptions than "bland" and "uninspired". They are the most overused words on videogame forums ever. You've seen glimpses of the game. Wathing glimpses of Star Fox 64 would be just about as lame. Is it supposed to have more to it than a game from last generation? Yes - and it does. Would I complain if it had the best looking graphics this gen? Heck no, but I don't care about the graphics. If it's as fun as Star Fox 64 was, I'm set. And from all the videos I've seen, I see nothing that shouts "this game isn't fun". When I see a video that looks unfun - I'll be worried. Until then I'll just hope for the best.
There are almost 4 months until the game releases. Having a Star Fox = Crap poll now seems stupid.

After playing the game @ E32K4 I must say I do feel better about the game than when it was announced at E32K3. The game was quite fun, I must admit.

I would have to applaud your post as the stupidest counter-argument ever. But it's OK, I forgive you. You're in DENIAL.

Would you say that the words "bland" and "uninspired" are in fact, bland and uninspired?

You're full of it Echo. You cannot judge an E3 video for the full game. Remember, it's Namco. They will pull this one off. If YOU'RE still in denial then you should wait for the completed version and give it a rent. Otherwise, shut your mouth.

Uh.. SFA was complete suck. On the sucking scale, it ranked a nice "I SUCK FOR A LIVING".
Dude, we do not want another SFA. Ever.

I'm excited for this game, and I might end up buying it now that Resident Evil 4 has been put on hold for a couple more months. I can't wait to give it a go, because I'm sure Namco will pull through.
And the gameplay looks like great fun to me, but I've been craving a shooter for a while.
I was only planning to ask for it for Christmas (and know for sure that I wouldn't be getting it), but now I just might be getting it. Watching those videos again was just enough to put the faith back into me.

I've played SFA in a store for around 5 minutes, and I'm thinking of buying it later this month. Is it REALLY that bad?

I think the game can be really fun. Obviously they badly need to fix the graphics. Fox looks like a smooth peice of plastic. If they want this game to be a succses then they have to put in the effort. They got plenty of time to polish it up.

NO! I loved SFA. It's one of my fav Cube games. I know it wasn't like the tradition Star Fox games, but aside from that, I thought it was a solid game.
