If Nintendo was really smart and really nice...
It would bundle these batteries in with every Wii:
Quote:

I love innovation – who doesn’t? That said, my tastes lie specifically in the kind which make my life simpler and easier. We’re talking email over post, wireless over wired, LCD over CRT and potentially now ‘USBCell’ batteries over your traditional AAs.
Released as a teaser to the IT press over a week ago with the tagline ‘Time to recharge the battery market’, the details are finally out and they are oh so logical yet very cool.
Produced by Moixa Energy, USBCell batteries are simply batteries that recharge from any USB port. They require no separate recharging devices, cradles or cables and can be used exactly like a normal battery. The design itself is rather like a typical memory stick with its flip top lid and they could be set to deliver the same killer blow to the battery market that memory sticks did to floppy discs.
USBCell batteries have a capacity of 1300mAH which is in line with most NiCd and NiMH batteries though some do go all the way up to 2500mAH. It takes five hours to charge a completely flat battery and an LED on the side will light up to indicate charging, flash for 10 minutes after charging is complete as an alert and switch off after that.
Available now and costing just £12.99 for two AA USBCell batteries (including VAT and delivery from the company’s website) I’m forced to say something I never thought would pass my lips: I’m quite excited about batteries!

As a poster on digg noted, we could charge the remote's batteries using the Wii's USB ports. While Nintendo will admittedly never do it, I'm definitely going to look at buying them separately when they are released. Awesome.

Why the hell do people care so much about battery life? I bought a pack of 4 batteries and a charger from wal-mart for a little over ten bucks a year and a half ago and they still work fine. keep 2 in the controller and 2 in the charger. problem solved.

So...if one of the controllers ran out of power you can just pop them out and stick them into one of the USB ports in the back of the Wii to charge?

Basically what you do is, buy 2 of these. One (after fully charged) goes in your Wii-Mote's battery slot. While the other pair of batteries are charging in your Wii's USB slot. Whenever one runs out, you just switch with the other pair. I might buy this now to use with my Xbox 360.

Considering the Wii's USB ports are on top of each other, you probably could only have one battery in at a time. Still, these batteries are really cool. But it's so frustrating sometimes how something as obvious as this innovation takes so long to come around.

^Since the diameter of an AA battery isn't that much wider vertically than a USB port, I don't think that will pose much of a problem, and even if it does I still have a couple of USB link cables, for when the only USB ports I had where in the back of my pc, so I put the USB key in the cable, and the cable in the port, bingo: connection (and thus power supply)...

Of course, he'll complain that it's too expensive and that Europe is getting ****ed over yet again while looking these things up on Wikipedia to make sure they're worth getting. Because like a good girlfriend is to her abusive boyfriend, we all know Bleeper loves European pricing.

He'll like it because he won't be paying for it. I will.
