No more Earthbound games :(

May 3, 2006 - The biggest release in Japan last week was a Game Boy Advance title. Nintendo released Mother 3, the latest installment in the popular Mother serier, over a decade after the second installment was released for the SNES (the series is known as Earthbound in America). The game went on to sell over 200,000 units in its first week.
Success like that would usually suggest a sequel is on the way. But not this time. Series producer Shigesato Itoi revealed today via an interview posted at his blog site, that he has no plans to make Mother 4. When asked if he won't be making games anymore, Itoi responded "Not Mother 4."
News of no more Mother is unfortunate indeed, considering the quality that the series has maintained over its three installments. However, fans of the series should note that Itoi's response leaves open the possibility of working on future games, even if they may not be Mother titles.

My dreams for an Earthbound game on Wii is no more.

That's saddening, but it also might be for the best. You know, to ensure the series retains its quality and doesn't become cheapened by sequels.

Doesn't exclude remakes, or Mother 3 on Wii.

Spyro is different, the developer responsible for its greatness sold the property off to a company that didn't care about it's existing fan base and went for the easy money route with a kids appeal and little development time and little effort in making it, you know, a good game.

are you saying they'd remake Mother 3 for Wii, or that they'd make it available on Virtual Console?

I really don't know what makes you think it won't come out over here. The amount of fans that are willing to pick this title up in the US would make it worth Nintendo's while. Hell, this is a Nintendo title, they could even get non-fans of the series to bite if they wanted to.

All of those fans would have purchased Mother 1+2, though... both of which already have English localizations completed. All Nintendo would have had to do is slap them on a cartridge, change the box art, and set the MSRP at $34.95 and they could have banked.
Also, after already having played a pretty decent amount of Mother 3, I would say that there are multiple parts of the game that would have to be cut out completely. If Nintendo is still going to baby America (this remains to be seen, but I have a feeling), this game simply can't come out over here.

Disappointing to say the least, but Itoi is the only one I want in control of a Mother title, so if he dosent want to do it, then thats it, done. Hes created 3 quality games, and theres only so much you can redo over and over again. Its for the best realy... that is... as long as Mother 3 comes here.
Along with Mother 1&2. Don't worry guys, N-Philes will be all OVER Nintendo reps at E3 to find out whats going on.
EDIT:

Nintendo hardly babies America anymore. They don't have the same policies with death and religion as they used to. but can you give examples?
