Prince of Persia: The Greatest Trilogy of the Generation
The Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. I've finished all three Prince of Persia games to completion and I have to honestly say that of all the games that span multiple releases this generation, the Prince of Persia series is the greatest of them all.
I just got done beating the latest game, The Two Thrones, a few minutes ago and I am just speechless. I'll add more to this thread about the series once I've collected my thoughts. I just had to open the discussion for anyone else who's played and beaten all three games. The Two Thrones for one thing justifies the darkness that was present in Warrior Within.
I personally didn't need that dark theme justified, because I saw the reason for it when the game came out. But some people are just too thick to understand it or refuse to accept something different. Fact of the matter is that the dark theme of WW was necessary for the characters development and the story. The rock music? Not necessary, I'm not gonna pretend that WW was flawless.
But back to The Two Thrones, it really does bring the series full circle. Admittedly, the original PoP didn't end in a fashion that would clearly lead to two sequels. But the developers came up with a way to make it work.
The gameplay in TTT is the best of everything from the first two games plus more. The music is mesmerizing and the architecture is incredible. Playing as the Dark Prince forces you to solve puzzles with a time limit for a great feeling of tension. There is very little I'd change about this game.

I agree. SoT was awesome beyond words. WW had me worried but TT just changed and finished everything for the best.

Looking back, I think the fact that Two Thrones makes Prince the good guy again in retrospect makes Warrior Within a better game. The Princes battle with his innerdemons (which is made literal in Two Thrones's epic conclusion) wouldnt have been nearly as poignant if they didn't make the Prince such a dislikeable, disturbed character in Warrior Within. So yeah, I agree Sonicblue. It was nessaciary for them to do it because it helped the overall story. But at the time when it came out I, like most people, felt the collective "WTF?!"
Warrior Within only failed because of its choice of music, unforgiveable save points and boss battles, and overall technical problems.
It may be bold, but do you agree that the Princes final fight with his dark side is one of the best endings to a video game ever? The trippy graphics and the brief flashbacks to memorable places in the series was excellant. I also think the Dark Prince's voice acting in that scene could go down as one of the most dramatic and well handled examples of voice acting in a video game ever.
GO AHEAD! SWING THAT SWORD PRINCE!
Edit: haha sorry, wrong person, my bad

Seconded, only I have a different opinion on the second game. But who gives a crap about that travesty, it still had a good story and tied the games together, backtracking and retarded music be damned.
The third game is not only the greatest in the series, but one of my favorite games I've ever played. The story unfolds in such a wonderful way, with the empress acting as the narrator and the Prince and his cynical doppelganger constantly trying to outdo each other with witty dialogue. I'd buy it for that alone, but the gameplay is absolutely perfect. Stealth kills all but do away with the retarded combat system, and the bosses use context sensitive moves ala God of War and RE4 to make everything feel more cinematic. The Prince himself has turned into one of my favorite video game characters simply because he really is just another guy that got screwed over big time and has to rectify for his foolishness. And he does, even making the Prince in the second game look like a tortured soul instead of a little punkass.
In short, it makes the second game better. I want this series to have a few new installments or be remade as soon as possible on next-gen consoles.
GET IT FOR $20 AT BEST BUY BEFORE JANUARY 31st USING THIS COUPON. Please hurry, and thank me later. (go Here if you want the PDF version that has "no copies" removed from the coupon.)

I loved Sands of Time, and after that I haven't played any others. Although from what I've heard The Two Thrones is much better then Warrior Within, so I'll probably make TTT my next purchase. Even though its a trilogy, I see another sequel in the works for next gen consoles.

I don't know, when Sands of Time came out in 2003 I didn't really get caught up in all of it, for whatever reason I just remember wanting all three of Ubisoft's releases that winter, XIII, Beyond Good & Evil and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. I bought them all, and yet the only one I've yet to beat is PoP for whatever reason it just never hooked me. My brother loved it, I just couldn't get into it. I played a good amount of Warrior Within and thought, yeah, it's good but never took the time to beat it. Now I have Two Thrones and I've yet to even sit down with it. However Shadow of the Colossus made me want to play a game with a similar platforming feel, and PoP is the only thing I can think of that comes close, so I do have a sudden urge to crack into one of them again.
I'm not saying they aren't great, but the problem is they just didn't hook me, it didn't seem like a new experience really.
Greatest trilogy this generation? Splinter Cell. Of course that goes debunk when the new one comes out in a few months, but whatever. Jak and Daxter would be the runner up.

Runner up for me would be R & C. Not including the 4th game...

I liked Sands of Time and that's the only one i've played so far. But it was glitchy as hell. I wouldn't mind playing the other ones in the trilogy, but I don't feel compelled to go out and buy them. Not really sure why.

Sands of Time is my 3rd favorite GCN game. I like the other 2 games, but not nearly as much. Still, great trilogy though.

Considering how I haven't played the two sequels, I couldn't have said such a thing.
I suppose I'll end up getting both eventually, as I loved Sands of Time.

DAMN Sonic, you just made me remember all the good times I had with SoT and WW. I have to reget them along with TTT on Thursday. I'm going to beat them too, frustration be damned.

I still need to get around to playing TTT(its sitting here still in plastic). if its amazing as you guys, then it is indeed the best trilogy.
my favorite series this generation is Ratchet & clank all the way. it would have been devil may cry, but part 2 made the choice for me very easy.

For me, I'd have to go with RE. I mean REmake was the pinnacle, Zero was amazing, and RE4 was great EXCEPT for the story.

I really must go out and buy The Two Thrones soon, I thrive for PoP. And the assurance of someone as awesome as sonic just makes it more reassuring.

The story in RE4 was pretty cool, I like how they tied in Wesker and Krauser in it.
Maybe because they branched the story out more.
