Adventures at the sushi bar
I had sushi for the first time tonight. I'm not really sure what I had, since I went with someone and he just ordered everything. Big sushi fan, so I just ate whatever he ordered. It was an interesting experience; half the things I liked and half I didn't, but I think I'd go again. To find out how it was, just go ahead and read these amazing descriptions and critiques that only a masterful expert on Japanese cuisine could type out.
First, there was eel. Rice stuffed with eel and okra with some sauce wrapped in something, I dunno....seaweed? Who knows! Disgusting.
Then there was this rice thing stuffed with fish eggs and there was a peice of pink salmon on top. Not bad.
We also got something called Shabu Shabu...but we had to cook it ourselves. I was thinking "wow, what kind of restaurant makes you cook your own food?" Yes, I do watch too much Lost in Translation. So there was beef, onions, noodles, lettuce and various other things and we had to cook it 'till we felt it was done. It was actually pretty good.
Seaweed salad. Disgusting. My friend ate my salad for me, "this stuff is awesome." No, not at all.
There was this sushi thing with vegetables and pork. Dipped it into some kind of sauce. Not bad.
But there was this other thing, it was like fish eggs with okra and some sauce wrapped in, I dunno, let's say seaweed because they like that. Gross.
Then there was this other dish, it was fried a little bit, with some rice and something orange in it...yeah, I have no idea what it was, but it tasted pretty good.
Of course there was rice....now that I can eat without hesitation.
And finally, there was this celery looking thing on the side of the sushi. It was a little brownish, like a brown sugar color to it. I asked 'what is that?" My friend said try it, so i took a chunk and right when i put it in my mouth he's like "you're not supposed to eat that much! it's ginger." Then he laughed.
Holy crap. Amazingly bad. My mouth felt like a garbage heap.
So that was my night at the sushi restaurant. Looking back I didn't actually "like" half the things we ate...half of it was either good or just not disgusting. My stomach feels kinda funny though, I hope I don't get sick.

God, I want some sushi so bad right now!
There is this fantastic Japanese restaurant a few towns over that has an all you can eat sushi bar and man, is it delicious. I guess if you're not a fan of fish in general than eating it raw wouldn't be for you, but I love fish and sushi is just yummy. Although I don't like the seered salmon, because it's cooked on the outside but raw on the inside and I don't like the combination of the two. It has to be one of the other, serve me cooked fish or serve me raw fish but don't make me eat them both at once. I am just dying for some sushi now.
Also, that place has the Chinese longevity buns which are sooooo good.

I never advanced beyond 'casual' Japanese cuisine. I'm not into fish, but random tempura and teryaki and stuff I'm fine with. Occassional sushi is nice of course. But beyond that... well I'm not much of an adventurous eater in general.

I like Japanese food; although I think Indian and Chinese pwnz it.
It seems every time I go to a Japanese restaurant there's always a group of Wapanese discussing 'bishies' and other stuff.

What kind? I'd be willing to kill an old lady for a bowl of real japanese ramen right now (gotta have the egg in it), but I'm not a fan of udon or any other sort of noodle. Maybe vermicelli, but that's vietnamese.

I like Nigerian food and chinease food. If you guys ever go to a Nigerian restaurunt order rice with stew and plantains or fried yams which are absolutely delightfull. I doubt however there are Nigerian restaurunts in N.America though, although apparently the US has a large Nigerian community.
