The July edition of Dormaga featured a special interview with Tetsuya Nomura, with new information concerning Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children.
Thanks to Site Staffer hitoshura for the translation.
Dirge of Cerberus:
"Not AC's 'sequel' and not a mere spin off, it's an epic story"
- The much-awaited DC is finally getting underway now. Could you start by telling us roughly what the game is about?
Nomura: The first thing I'd like to say is that DC isn't a sequel to AC. It does connect with AC chronologically, but it's a completely seperate story.
- The main character is different too.
Nomura: Yep. Questions unanswered in AC won't necessarily be revealed in DC. DC isn't going to touch on Geostigma, and conversely AC won't feature the DG SOLDIERS. AC will be concluded neatly in AC, so there's no need to worry about that (laughs).
- I see. Since Vincent is taking the lead in DC, I guess we'll be seeing more about his past too?
Nomura: There's a lot of things in Vincent's past that are shourded in mystery, but it will shed some light on it. In AC the story focus on Cloud, but in DC it shifts to Vincent, and shows Midgar as it is afterwards. We're planning on depicting his [tragic love] with Lucrecia, which wasn't shown in the original FFVII. Also investigating why those two didn't get together.
- It looks like it's going to be a more grown-up game.
Nomura: Yeah. We had decided from the start of the project to make it more mature. Even the design is different from AC and FFVII, so it has a atmosphere and world view that's unique to DC. FFVII itself is now nearly 10 years old. I think a lot of the people who played it back then are grown-up now. Maybe some of them don't play video games anymore. We're aiming for something a little difficult and mature, that they could enjoy.
- It certainly give off a different impression that FFVII or AC and BC.
Nomura: AC is primarily a story about Cloud and people close to him. But DC's story has lots of new characters and elements. It uses FFVII as it's theme, but if you play it you should get a new, different impression from it. Naturally there will be links unique to the Compilation, such as characters who appear in BC showing up in DC. Reversely, there's also the chance that other titles will be derived from DC in the future.
- Finally, can you tell us about any of the game's highlights?
Nomura: I think there are some people who believe that it's just a mere spin off, but it's a story on an huge scale. Even I was suprised by what it's becoming (laughs). I hope people will look forward to it.

Advent Children:
NOTE: The following was taken from a rough machine translation. Please stay tuned for a complete translation done by one of our Site Staffers.
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
[Note: The following deals with the scene of Cloud holding Kadaj on the outskirts of Midgar.]
''The children with Geostigma, and Kadaj is one of the children that Cloud saves.''
(T/N: Can you say fit of "awws!" and giggles?)
The scene of Cloud holding Kadaj doesn't mean that Kadaj is dead. The theme of Advent Children is the relief of the children. Even though Kadaj is the enemy, he is still one of the children that needs saving. The picture is one of deep meaning, and is only the scene where a decisive battle will take place. Could it be someone other then Cloud who attacked Kadaj?
The limited edition will contain one or two items that the fans of VII will enjoy, though what they are yet can not be said.
Nomura also talks about the new Airship which is not the Highwind. It was designed by the same person who designed the Fenrir, and was in a sense modeled along with it.
Since the release date has been announced, Nomura can confirm that the actual visuals for Advent Children will be complete by the end of May. But there is still back ground music, and cutting that needs to be done before Advent Children is completed. But even though the visuals are done, since the movie is CG it can constantly be improved to the very last minute.
Nomura talks about how the Venice showing was not Advent Children at its 100%. The preview was made in a hurry, and several things have changed, including "camera" positions.
Nomura talks about how the fast paced movements made voice synching a little hard. Advent Children is a movie designed to be watched repeatedly, because there are things youfll miss the first time around. The first time you watch it will be for the visuals, and as you watch it again and again, youfll be able to see into the story more depth.
Even Nomura has taken to watching it twice a week.
The next issue of Dormaga will contain a DVD that will have the E3 trailer on it.
The article finishes by saying that future titles may be derived from Dirge of Cerberus.
