Morpheus Is Dead (in MxO)!!!
Quote:
The Matrix Online Kills Morpheus
One main character down so far.
by David Adams
May 27, 2005 - One of the main selling points Warner Bros. and SEGA emphasized with The Matrix Online was that the MMORPG would feature dramatic characters and events, played by real in-game actors, which would continue the Matrix saga.
Recently, players saw a dramatic early example of this idea: Morpheus, the iconic mentor played by Laurence Fishburne the Matrix films, is now dead.
Over a week-long period, The Matrix Online told the story of Morpheus's attempts to recover Neo's body from the Machines. When the Machines refused to return Neo's remains, Morpheus began a rampage through the MegaCity, detonating code-bombs strong enough to threaten the Matrix itself. The Machines responded by sending the Assassin after Morpheus. The Assassin succeeded: Morpheus was killed.
Players in the game now have the opportunity to investigate the circumstances of Morpheus's death and participate in the Matrix saga just as dramatic events like these unfold.

Peace, and the things people do to wreck it.
Neo is dead. A truce exists between the people of Zion and the Machines. Morpheus should be happy, but he is not. His life's mission was to find The One. He succeeded, but now his life is without purpose -- or is it? Earlier in The Matrix Online, Morpheus told the Oracle that Neo's physical remains belonged in Zion - in a holy place. He proclaimed that the Machines must return Neo's remains to humanity, and swore that until that happened, he would not rest.
The Hunt for Morpheus event in The Matrix Online began with the disgruntled Morpheus resorting to drastic measures to coerce the Machines into giving up Neo's remains. Empowered with a new mission, Morpheus set off bombs around The Matrix MegaCity. These code bombs threatened the fabric of the Matrix, releasing a virus that would show humans' "reality" and potentially crash the whole system.
Predictably, there quickly followed a ferocious effort to stop him. The Assassin appeared in the Matrix, sent by... someone... to kill Morpheus. The Assassin finally caught up with Morpheus in a waste water treatment plant - which is significant.
Morpheus had finished planting his latest code bomb when he sensed an unusual presence. A buzzing fly betrayed the porcelain-masked Assassin, who took his first shots at Morpheus. Morpheus dodged by jumping over a walkway rail and escaping down a dark alley. As Morpheus fled, the Assassin fantastically flowed through a small vent directly in front of Morpheus. Somehow, the Assassin could bend the rules of the Matrix.
Morpheus was caught off guard and had nowhere to flee. The Assassin opened fire, catching Morpheus in a hail of bullets that even he could not dodge.
It seems impossible to believe - Morpheus is dead.

Dammit I have to get this game. I'm missing integral points in the continuing story of the Matrix.
Any thoughts on who the Assassin is? My guess is it's Neo being controlled by the Machines. Rumor has it there have been Neo and Smith sightings around the city late anyways.

The game sounds really cool. I've heard its not that great, but its still an interesting way to continue the storyline.

The game does indeed suck, however, the element of story telling in the game is supposed to be incredible. You can either be an integral part of the story, or just a smalln insignifigant spec in it, very adaptive.

I read somewhere (I think it was Cnet) that they were going to revive him or something anyway.

Yeah Metal leave the thread.
Anyway this sounds really awesome... I might pick it up eventually just so I can follow the storyline.
I wonder if I can be an Agent... that would be the coolest.

Hmm, Morpheus is dead? But I thought that the producers of the game were gonna play as the actual movie characters...? Or is that just Neo and Trinity and Niobe and...etc?

I don't think anyone plays as the main characters. It sounds like they're only involved in scripted story sequences. Plus, Trinity is dead and as far as we know Neo is as well.

They'll bring 'em all back somehow. Video games will be the comic books and soap operas of the 21st century. Didn't you know?
It sounds cool even though the game supposedly sucks. I wish they'd release it on Xbox except that's shot to hell with the way the story works and the game sucks anyway.

I've played it, and yes, it does suck. The continued story sounds cool, and is what we probably should have gotten in Revolutions (with Revolutions and Reloaded compressed into a single, non-boring film).

I could care less about the graphics or gameplay or whatever people are complaining about with this game. A lot of people said the said thing about Enter The Matrix which is why I didn't buy it initally, but then I finally stopped listening and bought it and loved it.
I just want to see how the storyline continues. I'd buy it today if it wasn't for the fact that my computer and my brother-in-law's computer won't run it because of the insane system requirements. I'm half-tempted to go out today and buy a new computer just so I can play ths one damn game, but that wouldn't be very smart considering I don't have a job.

Yeah, graphics and gameplay are EASILY the two LESAT IMPORTANT aspects of a video game. You all need to understand that what is really important is the property it's associated with and the boxart.
When will you people learn.
Tsk tsk tsk...
