Jigglypuff didn't waste any more time screwing around in this match, and scored a revenge K.O. the moment she returned by using the same upward swat attack that DK had just done to her. Donkey Kong finally lost one life, but Jiggly had a lot of work ahread of her just to tie things up, and even more to actually win the match. Luck smiled on her about then, because while DK could still be seen landing somewhere near Death Mountain, a Hammer appeared on the middle platform that Jigglypuff was more than willing to pick up. When Kong came back to the fight, he was caught offguard by the sudden onslaught of the giant hammer-wielding powderpuff, and Jigglypuff scored two direct hits as he tried in vain to jump around the platforms and escape the attack.Donkey Kong landed on the roof of the awning on the right of the level with 60%, and he'd only just started his second life! He prepared to put an end to Jigglypuff's comeback before it got any further by gearing up with a baseball bat and a fully-charged mega punch. Jigglypuff armed herself by first throwing a mine onto the side of the awning, just below DK, and then grabbing a nearby fan and jumping into the fray. They fought back and forth on the pinnacle of the awning, leaving not much room to breathe on the tiny platform. Jigglypuff kept resorting to hovering around Donkey Kong and using air attacks as he dodged back and forth and tried his best to get a hit in edgewise. Once Jigglypuff had landed, he knocked her off-balance with a light swing of the bat, and though she blocked the hit, it was enough to make her lose her footing and fall onto the mine on the edge of the awning. The very mine she had placed there herself, making this both an exciting and ironic turn of events. Intense!
The mine explosion blew ape and powderpuff alike onto the ground below the awning, with DK at 90% and Jigglypuff at 30%. Jigglypuff picked up Donkey Kong's dropped bat and Donkey Kong picked up Jigglypuff's dropped fan, and the fight started up again. DK threw his fan straight at and Jigglypuff chucked her bat back. Jigglypuff had blocked the fan, but DK took the hit like a champ and tumbled into the side of the awning, then over to the wall opposite the awning, and then collapsed on the ground.
Now, I tend to call this part of the level (the small space between the long flat ground of Hyrule Castle and the awning) the "mosh pit". Reason being that when players bring the fight down there, it's just a constant smash after smash and nobody ever gets out; they just get rumbled back and forth between the two walls. It's probably the best part of any Super Smash Bros. level for dishing out combos, but if you get stuck on the receiving end of an assault in there, you can see your damage go from 0% to killing range in no time at all. And that's pretty much what was happening to DK at this point in the game.
Donkey Kong picked up his fan again and threw it in vain at a blocking Jigglypuff, and then pressed the attack with his helicopter hover special, which was also blocked. Before he could recover from his offensive, Jigglypuff cut into him with a low smash attack, a puff punch special attack, and then picked up and threw her bat as fast as she could. The hit blew DK right into the side of the awning, but at 144% he ricocheted out of the mosh pit and straight into a whirlwind on the middle platform of the high tower. Just for good measure, Jigglypuff picked up the bat and floated to the platform to throw it at him again while he was caught in the tornado. At such high damage DK had no hope of surviving the tornado's winds, in an instant he was out of sight somewhere in the sky.
Jigglypuff had somehow tied up the match with her primitive pugilist opponent, and only had 30% going into the next round. The match went from completely one-sided to edge-of-the-seat close in a matter of minutes. I told you it wouldn't be boring.
At this point Jigglypuff made her back under the awning to pick up her trusty bat and then flew through the air at the resurrected Donkey Kong, who had already jumped to the floor under the platforms to grab a crate full of items. But this box full of items was actually full of FIERY DEATH, because when Jigglypuff tried to ambush Donkey Kong by drilling him and the box, it exploded and sent her flying off to the far right. Donkey Kong didn't even move, because he eats his Wheaties and exercises regularly.
DK made a mad dash to meet Jigglypuff head-on when she landed on the extreme right side of the level. They scuffled and exchanged light blows to the right of the awning, dodging and blocking, completely unaware that a Bob-Omb had appeared just a few feet to their left and was about to go active! The little mechanical explosive came to life and started its steady march directly towards the two combatants, both of whom were quickly increasing in damage. At that moment, Donkey Kong knocked Jigglypuff straight into the air with his spinning split smash attack and then, in what looked to be a fatal mistake, taunted her. The Bob-Omb caught up to him and upon contact it detonated, but somehow Donkey Kong had been able to pull up his shield just in time and only suffered a slight jarring.
After recovering from the explosion, Donkey Kong caught up with Jigglypuff, who had just opened a box on the floor near the platforms. It contained both a green and red shell. While Jigglypuff dodged around him, DK tried to hit her with the green shell when she was over to his right, but she jumped over it and it hit the awning instead. With Jiggly overhead, Kong threw the red shell into the air, and it knocked her over to the left slanted side of the level. Then the red shell bounced back and hit Donkey Kong, tossing him down to the ground near the awning, where his green shell had fallen.
A star appeared just ahead of Jigglypuff as she recovered from her run-in with the shell and made her way over to Donkey Kong. DK was still stuck in the mosh pit with the green shell, because every time he picked it up, he threw it into the wall and it immediately stopped, which meant he had to pick it up and throw it again. What a stupid ape. So it looked like Jiggly was going to get lucky on this one and walk right into the star on her way over to him, and then seriously turn the tide of the match. But in a twisted turn of events, the red shell roared back onto her side of the level and bashed her straight into a whirlwind that had just formed behind her. At 91%, the lightweight Jigglypuff was sent careening into the wild blue yonder. DK meanwhile was still being outsmarted by an insentient koopa shell. What a stupid monkey.
But what a victorious monkey! Donkey Kong was able to hold onto his lead in the match despite Jigglypuff rapidly gaining ground on him, and he moves on to the next round. You could say Jigglypuff got robbed near the end, or you could say God just didn't want her to live (I know I didn't. Either way, that wraps up this match, so tune in next week to see Yoshi flex his stuff.
