What you just saw, and hopefully laughed at, can best be described as something of a mix between a teaser and a debut. This is the first comic in what will be a series known as "2-Bit Heroes". What a witty title for a comic about video game heroes, I know. Without boring you with an explanation, the concept is to get a better look at your favorite Nintendo characters outside of their roles as heroes, at their struggles through paying the bills when the coins, rupees, and other spoils of war run dry. And at some times you'll see the quirkier sides of their personalities that aren't shown during their adventures.
I won't have to tell our more perceptive readers that 2-Bit Heroes is the brainchild of Jared and Barrak, but I just did anyway to be safe. The forum crowd know them as Deacon and Barrak and as such they should need no introduction, but to those who aren't familiar with them, Jared is a writer for N-Philes (in fact he's writing this right now!) and Barrak was once the graphical artist. In a shocking turn of events, Barrak is doing the writing and Jared is doing the art. What a mind-blower.
That's the backstory, and the frontstory is this: we're planning on making 2-Bit Heroes a series, following the tomfoolery of Link, Mario, and Kirby and introducing other classic characters as we go on. Due to us being elitist bastards, but also in order to allow our certain brand of humor to shine through without scandalizing the site's front page, the comic will move to its own domain eventually. For now though, it should be a little-more-often-than-weekly feature hosted in association with N-Philes. They'll put it up for now, and when the new domain is set up N-Philes and 2-Bit Heroes will have a link-exchange for mutual benefit and good will.
As you can see, there will be mana for all, but in the meantime enjoy the comic. More to come soon.
