End Boss 2006, Day 27: Lord Necroth (Darkened Skye)

Lord Necroth

Darkened Skye

Way back when, a development team at a little-known studio by the name of Boston Animation was kicking around some ideas for a game which would redefine the way the Western world thought about the Nintendo GameCube. Their only obstacle? Securing funding for this interactive masterpiece. Enter: Skittles. What else could possibly capture the imaginations of the nation's youth and provide an environment engrossing enough to warrant complete exploration?

The player assumes the control of Skye, a shepherdess from a country with a name that could very well be that of a lunchlady, Lynora. While herding sheep one day, Lynora happens across a Skittle. Instead of eating it like any normal person would, she discovers that, by combining it with other Skittles, she can possess magical powers. Fantastic. As you can see, the game's visual quality is as spectacular as the
storyline.

Lord Necroth, however, has stolen the magic rainbow (of "Taste the Rainbow" fame), and covered Lynora in darkness. He decreed that nobody else could harness the magical power of the Skittles (I am not making this up, by the way), and so his primary joy in life is unleashing a constant deluge of torment and pain on the world. Lord Necroth is much like Ryan Seacrest in this regard.

Lord Necroth has truly stood the test of time. Few names strike as much fear into the hearts of gamers around the world as his. Never before has a figure stood so hulking, so awe-inspiring, so pants-wettingly frightening as Necroth. It is easy to see why it is widely speculated that Lord Necroth has skyrocked ahead of Mickey Mouse, Mario, and Jesus as the most recognizeable figure to children today, and should Darkened Skye's popularity continue on the path it's on, that familiarity should not be going away any time soon.
