New Weapons!? If Only ...

It was depressing finding out that there were no secret, never before seen weapons to marvel at hidden deep inside RE4's code. In other words, N-Philes did not find any Ice Beams or Light Sabers. Instead, some peculiar working guns were found, one of which totally messes up your body, while others produced jerky reload animations at best.

The first finding was not necessarily of a gun, but an attachment for your gun. The scope to your rifle used to be different from what it is now. Below is a picture of what the default scope looks like as we've all seen before. Under that image is the beta scope that was found.

The beta scope is different in a few ways. The most obvious change is that the black border and surroundings outside of the zoomed image are gone. Instead, everything outside of the sniped view is environmental blur, basically the same as with the regular scope but undarkened. Also, gone are the crosshairs; it's much more difficult to snipe without them. All in all, the beta scope looks OK, but its simple design feels empty and uninspired compared to the final scope design. It was a good move on Capcom's part to get rid of it.

This next "gun" may have been used for experimental purposes. It looks and feels just like a Red9, but it operates like nothing seen before. Bizarrely, when you aim, the laser protrudes from the bottom of your gun. Also, whenever you fire a bullet from this pistol, you're instantly flown backwards exactly as Leon does when he trips the lasers from the dynamite sticks. You even lose health when this happens. You can actually kill yourself just by shooting this gun!

But that's not the most bizarre thing about this device. Not to be outdone by Ada's impressive disembodiment, after you shoot a bullet and get up off the ground, to say the least, Leon is no longer Leon. He actually loses his head! Now it's held like a football in his arm!

You can aim, but it's far from normal. When Leon runs, his waist, legs and arms are all in different directions. Why does this happen? Again, we may not ever know, but it might be safe to conclude that developers conducted many experiments with this apparatus.

How cool would it be to be able to use Krauser's bow and arrow? Surprisingly, equipping Leon with Krauser's bow was possible, but not surprisingly, the results were less than cool. After Leon equips the bow, when he aims the device, he's still actually aiming the weapon he held previous to equipping the bow. So, if you were armed with a shotgun and equipped the bow and arrow from the inventory screen, Leon would still be holding the shotgun.

When Leon aims the bow and arrow, the laser actually goes backwards. What?

Notice the lower-right hand corner of the screen. It reads "Empty." When Leon tries to fire, nothing happens. Man, we were so close to using this awesome weapon.
