Online cheaters appearing in Mario Kart already?

Cheating in Mario Kart. Is there anything quite so ridiculous?
With Mario Kart now available in PAL regions, reports are already coming in of impossibly quick track completion times appearing on the score boards. Three players in particular are topping the tables with times lower by less than half those seen by other users. The game only came out yesterday, so perhaps it's simply an early glitch in the score boards system. Or perhaps these players have simply found ridiculous shortcuts for the tracks, but Nintendo should probably be addressing these issues either way!

Ha, like Nintendo will EVER maintain their online infrastructure. But if they do and it's a glitch, then I wonder if they'll actually go through the effort to fix it.
But if you seriously have to glitch for a top spot in a game for, of all online systems, the Wii, then you're pathetic.

I had noticed something was fishy yesterday. I downloaded a record holder's ghost (a girl!), and in the middle of the unremarkably noobish race (no powerboost at startup, what looked like AUTO drifting), she just turned around completely and kept still despite all of poor Lakitu's efforts!
I immediately thought of some kind of exploit, and this confirms it...
